Shatterbox was founded by five partners with 100 years combined experience in the SBA industry and international expertise building learning systems for Fortune 100 companies.

Dustin Baker

Chief Executive Officer

Dustin began his SBA career in 1999 at the industry’s trade group, NAGGL. He has worked in SBA staffing since 2004, and is co-founder of the industry’s preeminent recruiting firm, Baker Lewis. He’s also the creator and host of The SBA Roadshow, a traveling docu-series that tells the story of the economic impact of SBA loans in communities across the country. At his core, Dustin is a builder of community, connector of people and opportunities, and a dyed-in-the wool storyteller. Dustin sets the vision for Shatterbox and develops new opportunities for the company’s growth.

Karen McHugh

Chief Content Officer

Karen is one of the most recognizable faces in the SBA lending industry. She was the EVP and COO at NAGGL where she developed the trade association’s first Educational Program from scratch and she provided SBA technical assistance to NAGGL’s members from coast to coast. She has also been a SBA lender in both large and small financial institutions; she has served on the NAGGL Board of Directors for many years; and, most recently she managed internal training to the lending teams of a top 5 national SBA lender with more than 300 employees dedicated to SBA lending. Karen leads all content development efforts for Shatterbox and works closely with our Subject Matter Experts to deliver up-to-date information and varied approaches to learning.

Alan Faulk

Chief Learning Officer

Alan Faulk is a learning strategist and a senior leader in the area of Learning and Organizational Development. He’s helped global organizations boost performance and business results through the right mix of technology, content strategy, data, stakeholder management, and new skill sets. Before launching Why Not Consulting, which specializes in large-scale learning transformation, he held several senior learning roles with global companies, where he led learning initiatives with brands like Heineken, University of Phoenix, and Spotify. Alan leads all strategy and execution related to Shatterbox’s learning platform.

Shane Lewis

Chief Recruiting Officer

President and Co-Founder of SBA Recruiting firm Baker Lewis, Shane is a Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC) with 10 years recruiting experience, and is a partner and trusted advisor to many national leaders in SBA lending. Along with his partner Dustin Baker, Shane has placed over 400 SBA lending professionals nationwide. Shane understands better than anyone the staffing challenges faced by the country’s SBA lenders. He’s a passionate advocate for the industry, and leads Shatterbox’s efforts to attract top new talent to our apprenticeship program.

John Handmaker

Chief Strategy Officer

John began his exclusive SBA career at the nation’s perennial top lender, The Money Store, and over the past 2 decades has founded and grown two national SBA lending platforms into top 25 lenders, both of which he successfully sold. He’s a serial entrepreneur; a two time Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist; and a SBA Financial Services Advocate of the Year whose company repeatedly appeared on the Inc. 5000 list. John is the Chief Strategy Officer for Shatterbox, including capital structure, identifying strategic partners, and providing critical analysis to help the company make informed decisions about direction.
